"Hell, I find myself listening to "Need The Needle" the fourth or fifth time now and I am desperately trying to comprehend why I even like this chaotic, disjointed piece of music where nothing seems to fit together. "Non è un album facile, ma se è per questo loro non hanno mai concepito un disco facile, bisogna perderci tempo e pazienza per entrare nelle loro strutture mentali, ma una volta varcata la soglia il fascino che viene emanato è totalizzante. Hate Songs For Mary/Love Songs For Lucy è soltanto uno dei piccoli aiuti che vi aiuteranno a comprendere il perchè di certi stacchi così apparentemente abissali fra certi momenti più soft, e altri maggiormente spigolosi e abrasivi. In certi momenti i rimandi agli anni 70, e alla sua stagione d'oro del Progressive Rock italiano sono un qualcosa di veramente efficace, fino a quando non si riviene trascinati nel pozzo della disperazione, sempre con maestria ed equilibrio. Need The Needle è l'ennesimo passo avanti in un qualcosa di ancora più indefinito, ma è curioso constatare come in questo 2009 la band suoni ancora più nera e oscura di quando si facevano conoscere come Maldoror e proponevano un Black Metal ad ogni modo di estrema qualità.
